Origin Story

OUR CREATION

In the beginning, two brothers were influenced by their two wonderful wives to pick up the habit of drinking coffee. They then took it way too far and became obsessed. Brewing and drinking quality coffee has now become a way for us to connect and fellowship with each other. It’s never forgotten on our combined family vacations, and it’s a staple at our family game nights. Many deep theological discussions (and some not so deep) have been had over a steaming mug of freshly brewed coffee.

After years of dreaming, planning, researching, and experimenting (including some very rudimentary methods of roasting coffee), we were finally presented with the perfect opportunity to join the coffee roasting community.

OUR MISSION

Refined Coffee Roasters exists to bring flavorful coffee to those around us. We want to spread that same sense of community and connection that we have created within our own families, through well-sourced, freshly roasted coffee. We hope to collaborate with local businesses, shops, and vendors to serve others and bring families and communities together. With this in mind, we pledge to source only the best beans, and roast them with the utmost care, in order to produce a coffee that is worthy of your cup.

OUR NAME

Refined: to be freed from impurities.

When coffee beans are in their natural, raw state, they are not very pleasant to consume. They have a bitter, woody flavor and are very hard to chew. When they are being roasted, they go through a refining process, softening and releasing fragrant oils and sugars. They are now full of flavor, their form has been changed, and the character of the bean has been developed.

In this same way, our Creator is continually refining us from the inside out. Transforming us from our natural, hard-hearted, and bitter state, into a vessel that is full of flavor, releasing the sweet aromatic fragrance of Christ. Our hard, bitter hearts have been replaced with a new, softened heart that reflects the character of our Creator.

We are a Divine work of art, something that is being made. In which our Creator will not be satisfied until a certain character shines through. Our Creator is, in love and through pain, trying to train us into something unlike our natural selves.
— C.S. Lewis
